A Case Study on Energizing School Culture

In August, Alhambra High school in Martinez, CA booked STEAM The Streets to perform the assembly show “This Can Be You” to kick off their school year.

After the show we interviewed Alhambra’s principal Keisha Emmendorfer: “This was a perfect way to start the school year. The message was very clear; there are many opportunities that are STEM/STEAM related that students can get involved in, and it starts with their passions.”

The assembly was performed for 1,100 students, Alhambra’s full student body, and featured live music production, engaging visuals, and motivational speaking.

“The way that STEAM the Streets engaged our students through multiple modalities, video, audio, etc.

I really appreciate the way that the message was delivered by DJ Anghelli. Just being able to relate. What they learn in class sometimes, they don’t see as relevant. So just that immediate jolt to show the relevance. That happened throughout the presentation.”

Principal Emmendorfer is confident that the energetic assembly will have a ripple effect throughout the school year. “I feel like it’s going to energize us. I’m going to incorporate things you said in the presentation throughout the year to remind the students. So we’re not one and done!”

This is one example of how “This Can Be You” checks off so many boxes: shifting school culture and climate, career awareness, student voice, and showcasing diverse representation to inspire students.
